Who can come :

This class is suitable for beginners to learn the foundations or more experience potters, who just need time space and some tuition to make their own creations.

What will I learn :

You will be introduced to the foundation of hand building pottery techniques including, slab building, coil pots and pinch pots. You will also be shown a variety of ceramic decoration methods such as applying coloured slips and glazing.

Weeks 1 - 4 : A demo at the beginning of each class and then time spent making your creations with help from your pottery tutor. This includes, pinch pots, coil pots, slab building and slip decoration

Week 5 - Time spent finishing off your projects and using the skills you have learnt to make your pottery creations.

Week 6 : Demo and quick introduction into glazing and time spent to glaze your work.

What is included:

All materials and equipment and tools will be provided. The clay we are using will predominantly be stoneware and terracotta. I have a large selection of coloured slips and we will be working with mainly brush on glazes.

All kiln firings are included in the cost, you work will be ready to collet up to 3 weeks after the course has finished.

Tea, coffee and snacks provided.

Final Notes:

I am very relaxed with the classes as I really want you as the students to really have a chance to make what you would like.

The classes will be a maximum size of 8 so I can give lots of time to each student.

These ceramic classes will take place at my Bristol pottery workshop in Centrespace studios, 6 Leonard Lane, Bristol, BS1 1EA

About the tutor:

Jessica Thorn Ceramics has been teaching pottery for over 7 years now to all ages an abilities. Jessica also teaches pottery at The Folk House and lectures at Bristol School of Art
